Hard Using White Oak and some kepharts

Handle material selection on a custom knife can sometimes
be hard for someone to choose, especially if it's your first
custom or your not familiar with certain hardwoods, or
all you have is plastic handled knives.

If you love traditional knives, guns, bows or you just
love traditional style work there are many hard woods
to pick from, Tiger Maple is one of my favorites and
holds up well, as well as black walnut.  If you had
watched some of my videos you have seen my
old Hudson bay camp knives that I made years ago
and it has a black walnut handle and is still going
strong.  Hickory is very durable as well as Ash wood
and red oak, the list goes on.

Stag is very nice and another topic all together
this post is focused on wood.

Sometimes White oak gets over looked or
forgotten about. 



This wood is very durable
and dense as well and has been used for many
years in furniture building, construction
of large ships, timber frame buildings and more.

Below is one of my Bush hunting and survival knives
(Model 257)...with an extended 5 inch blade,
antiqued white oak handle.

Custom Knives from past work

Here is something I thought would be nice to do
when I can.   Maybe as mid week updates.

I will post a custom knife I made from the past
for you all to see.

This one in a short sized carry knife, great little
skinner and general using design with a stag handle. 

Something like this with 2 plus inch blade can be
carried in a pocket or set up for neck or belt carry.

Custom Belt Knife...Frontier style

Below is a Custom order Belt knife I recently completed.  The blade is
about 5 inches long with patina aging.  The handle is black walnut
with 3 antiqued steel pins.  The sheath is hand stitched with a hand
tooled line worked tree.

Stag Knives! Traditional Hunting Skinner and a shorter price skinner

Below is a recently completed custom knife.  This is one of my
H6 Traditional Hunting Skinner's with a Stag Handle and
brass pins.  Belt sheath is hand stitched.

I also wanted to post a picture of the knife below that was
done as a custom order awhile back.  This is a customized
version of my PRC Frontier Hunter Skinner
or the "Price Skinner"
This version was altered a bit to be at about a 4 inch
blade with some very nice patina aging and tapered forward
clip/swedge.

The handle is antiqued stag, steel pins over brass washers
and also has a lanyard hole at the end.

Woods and Bush knife Caper knife set

This week I have a custom Set to show you. Top knife is
my Woods and bush knife, bottom knife is a caper knife.
Each knife has tiger maple with brass pins and the woods
and bush knife has a rear lanyard hole with a hand braided
leather thong.  Each sheath was stitched by hand.

Stag Custom horizontal carry

Couple weeks back or so I posted a video showing

this stag custom with a 5 inch blade, beefed up spine.

At the time the sheath wasn't done and I didn't have 

sheath pictures.  Below is the final knife and sheath/

Custom ferro rod.  Set up to wear horizontal carry.
