A Custom Frontier Bowie Knife

The Bowie knife below was custom ordered and has the look and feel
of a bowie knife from the 1800's

The blade on the knife is about 7 inches with patina and some
pattern aging.  The width is just under 2" and the forward
clip has been tapered.

The steel guard was forged, aged and hand fitted to the tang
and meets up with an antiqued bone handle that has 5 steel
pins.

The sheath was antiqued and hand stitched.

A Bowie Knife that is a handfull

This Bowie knife was a custom order and is a stout handful
of a knife.

The blade is about 8 inches long and a bit under 2" wide.
The forward clip has been tapered to a swedge.

It is hard to tell from the photo below but the blade has a light
forge pattern that has been hand sanded down to have a clean
look but still has the look of a vintage style blade.

The handle is black walnut with 3 steel pins  and the tang is
exposed and runs past the but end of the handle maybe by
.25

The guard was forged, hand shaped and hand fitted.

The sheath was hand stitched as well and made with an
old school vintage style leather tie.

A set of Vintage Style knives

This is a custom set of knives for a custom order.

These knives were made with aged black walnut handles and
both have large brass pins.  The smaller of the two knives
has a 5 inch blade and the larger almost bowie shaped
knife has a blade about 9 1/2" long.

Both handles also have a beautiful ball end grip.

All my sheaths are hand stitched but are not in the photo
below.

I did upload a video of the smaller knife that I will post
below the photo.  Time was a factor in not having both
on this video.

The Vintage Bowie Knife and some Leather Work

The Bowie knife posted below was a recent custom order that left my
shop, and the blade measured out at about 8 inches long with a slow
tapered forward swedge/clip.

The tang was hidden and runs through the entire length of the
aged black walnut handle and was preened over a solid steel
but cap.  The hatching on the handle was done by hand as well.

The guard is of steel as well and was forged and hand fitted.

The sheath was hand stitched and antiqued.

New Leather work was added to the "Available Leather Pieces Page"
All of my leather tooling and hand carved line work is done
one at a time and by hand.
Here is a close up of the current available piece.

A Bowie Knife Jim Bowie Would love

Bowie knives are a special knife if you ask me,  Just some kind of
special goodness when you hold a blade like this.  I would list
a bowie amongst my favorite's to make as far as large knives go.

This being said I also love forging and making the large butcher
or camp knife.  If you have read my book you know how I feel about
an old school butcher knife.  This post originally wasn't meant to be
a list of knives I enjoy making because I could list a bunch here.
So let me go on to this bowie.

This bowie knife  has a blade just about 9 inches long, and has a nice
patina on it.  The spine has been file worked  and the width on this
is about 1 3/4" after the guard give or take.

The handle is aged crown elk stag and is well over 5 inches long with
2 old school style steel penned pins.  The guard is forged and is thick and
stout at about 3/16"

The sheath was hand stitched and antiqued and all the tooling vine work
was done free hand.

A Vintage Style Bowie Knife

This was a recently completed vintage style bowie knife
that left my shop.

Here is some info on this Bowie.
The blade was about 10 1/2" long with a very nice
patina aged finish and forged steel guard.  The forward
part of the blade was tapered.

The handle is tiger maple set up in a 5 pin fashion.
the sheath was antiqued a darker brown and hand
stitched set up to be worn high.

Also most of you who have followed my work know I share the same
love as all of you for being outdoors, being in the woods, hunting,
fishing, and so on.

As I can I like to post pics and info on some of my other adventures
and passions.  Maybe even add a separate page on the blog for
this in the future.    Anyway.  On a recent walk with my wife about 5
minutes from my house a local farmer had a flock of geese sitting in one
of his fields.

The funny thing is all the geese seemed as if they were pointing in one
direction as if they were all looking at something and never did turn around.
Wish I had a better picture, but the best I could get is below.
