A Set of Custom Knives

Posted below is a set of custom knives recently completed in my shop.

The Top knife is a large kitchen/chefs style knife with a full
handle and large 8 inch blade.

Second knife was made as a carver but a blade of this shape and
style has been around forever and could easily be used for many
tasks besides kitchen and meat slicing.

Third knife down is my last chance carry with a patina aged blade
and double pinned lanyard holes.

Last knife is a deep belly drop point design I make with a blade
about 3 plus inches.

All the knives were handled in a very hard and dense Australian eucalyptus
wood.

Large Frontier Knife..

The Frontier style knife below was a custom order knife with a blade
about 8 inches long.  The knife will be used to butcher large game
and I am sure for many more tasks as well.

The blade also has plenty of forge pattern and patina with a hand
file worked spine.

The guard was forged and hand fitted right after the antiqued bone
handle.  The pins are of steel.

All my sheaths are hand stitched just as this one and was antiqued
to fit the piece.

When Possible I like to share some of the photos I take in back country and trails I
hike.  Below are a couple pics I took you might like.

The 1 Wicked Way to dull a Knife in the kitchen

If you love your knives and you work at keeping
your edge at its finest then you want to keep reading
this.

I will have to also  say  in this post I am NOT
a professional chef in the kitchen, but I do know from
making knives for a living and using knives in many different
ways for years that if you want to dull your blade real quick
the number one edge killer is to use your fine tool improperly.

By this I mean if your cutting meat or vegetables
use a decent cutting board.

I worked with butcher's years ago and I don't
think I ever saw one of them using a Steel
top cutting surface directly with the blades of there
knives.

DO NOT Use glass or marble for a cutting area.
This will dull your fine blade up very quickly.

If you ask my opinion the best thing to use in the kitchen
is a solid wood cutting board.

Wood has been used for years and if you clean it
and oil it properly it should last a very long time.

Large Bladed Butcher/Scalper Knife Custom

It would have been nice to see this on video, but I didn't
have the time before I boxed it up for a custom order.

The sweeping  10 1/4" curve on this blade was excellent,
felt great in hand and would serve not only for a great
butcher knife and more.  You can see from the picture
the blade was patina aged as well.

The handle is tiger maple with a ball end grip 3 brass
pins.

Sheath was hand stitched and set up to be worn high
for a left hand cross draw.

I had some time to do a little fishing and thought you would like to see
a couple pictures.  Small mouth bass, at a smaller size but they put
up a decent fight.

Thank you
Happy Fathers Day.

This week I am posting one of my custom order Camp Butcher Knives.

These are very nice stout camp and old school style butcher knives
capable of many cutting and camp chores.

Pictures below show this one with a cleaner 8" blade and aged black
Walnut handle, steel pins over brass washers.  The sheath is darker
brown and hand stitched set up to wear left hand carry.
Spine is 3/16" tang.

You can see this knife as well on my
special order page 3 of my website.

Country Butcher knife..Past Work

Here is a knife from past work.

This was a wide bladed knife at about 2" wide with a patina
aged finish, handle being antiqued hard ash wood with steel pins.
Blade being about 8 inches long.

The knife was fashioned after some of the butcher style
knives that worked and served well for many years in this country
and had a solid tang that drifted back into the handle about more than
half way.
